SUNNYVALE, CA, December 21, 2004 - ShoreTel, Inc., the innovation leader in enterprise IP telephony, today announced its ShoreTel IP 560 telephone was named Phone of the Year by CommWeb, a leading provider of the essential information enterprises need to deploy advanced voice communications systems and networks quickly and cost-effectively. The IP phone shootout ranked vendor products by Ease of Installation; Product Features; Product Documentation/Integrated Help; Technical Support; the Results of Manual Phone Exercises/Reviews; and the Results of Automated Speech Quality Tests. ShoreTel received a perfect score in the Ease of Installation category, and its phone was judged truly unique in terms of the effort put into the design and ergonomics.
According to the CommWeb reviewers, "First and foremost, this [the ShoreTel 560] is an extremely nice-looking phone... don't hate this phone 'cause it's beautiful. It is apparent that a lot of time and thought went into this phone design. It works well too. In fact, our human testers thought the speakerphone sounded better than the handset. And our automated tests showed similar toll-quality sound even at degraded network conditions and using compressed-audio codecs."
"We had professional industrial and acoustic engineers design our telephones with a unique style that is comfortable as well as delivering outstanding voice quality," said ShoreTel president and CEO John W. Combs. "Not only are they easy to learn, easy to use and easy to deploy, our ShorePhones minimize user training and installation costs while boosting productivity. We're extremely pleased that the CommWeb editors and CT Labs testers are as delighted with our phone as our customers are."
The ShorePhone IP 560 Business Telephone delivers the telephone features users need across a converged infrastructure. For end users, the IP 560 provides excellent voice quality and makes feature access easy with its large display and intuitive pre-programmed feature keys and soft-key menus. It also can indicate presence of co-workers, including call, availability, and message statuses. For system administrators, the telephone provides plug-and-play deployment enabling the ShoreTel system to automatically discover the phone and provision it on the system simply by connecting it to the network.
All products selected by CommWeb for review provided, at a minimum, the following features and functions:
- Ability to accept and place IP Phone calls
- Codec support for G.711
- Support for at least one of the following protocols: H.323, SIP, or MGCP
The phones were manually exercised by CT Labs evaluators to verify as many of each product's core features as possible. This manual exercise included a two-person live speech quality audit that provided a brief subjective evaluation of the perceived quality. CT Labs also performed end-to-end phone call tests with two IP phones to assess the overall speech quality level of the product. All tests in this section were performed using automated tests with two of Sage 935AT Communication Sets.
